Formally established as a Grand Rapids neighborhood in 1996, the Oakdale neighborhood is a small up and coming community. Based around the Oakdale Park Christian Reform church, this neighborhood is home to more than 2,000 people. This church has been the source for many community activities and a welcoming gathering area for the last 100 years.

Around since 1989, Bayard Art Consulting and Frameshop is another locally owned and operated business in the Oakdale neighborhood. Now known as Bayard Gallary of Fine African American Art and Books, this company has evolved over time with the help of owners George and Deborah Bayard. Over the years they have hosted a number of lectures, book signings, and exhibits for residents to enjoy.

Oakdale is a small neighborhood packed with great amenities and homes. There are several parks nearby the neighborhood like Mulick Park, which is a 10-acre park that offers some great features. This year-round park has a sledding hill for the winter months and a water playground for those warmer spring and summer months.

Close by the Oakdale neighborhood is the Dickinson Buffer Park which is categorized as a mini-park with less than one-acre of land. This may be a small park but you can still find amenities like a basketball court, playground, and picnic tables all on one-acre.
